Digterhjemmet (the Poet's Home)
Julius Bomholt
Julius Bomholt's house, Digterhjemmet, is an old house from 1790, located in Sønderho on the island of Fanø, which has been lovingly restored and lightly modernized. It has electric heating, a wood burning stove, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a number of rooms suitable for sleeping or for daily use.
The property belonged to Julius Bomholt (1896-1969) who was an author. From 1929 to 1968 he was a member of the Danish parliament. He was the first Danish minister of culture. After his death Mr. Bomholt's property was donated to the municipality of Esbjerg to be used as a temporary habitation by Nordic authors.
The house is available free of charge for Nordic writers. The period of stay is usually set at 3 months.
Notices concerning stays in the house are announced once a year in the journals of Nordic authors' unions. All applications received are ruled on by the committee.
The property is administrated by Esbjerg Municipality under the name of Digterhjemmet.
